Indonesian Navy Hospital Auxiliary Ship Evacuates Victims of Shipwreck in Waters North of Bangka Island
The Indonesian Navy's Hospital Auxiliary Warship, KRI Dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 (KRI RJW-992), conducted a medical evacuation for victims of a sea accident in the waters north of Bangka Island on Friday (July 11th).
Initially, KRI RJW-992, which was operating in the area, was operating smoothly as usual. However, at exactly 12:30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the ship's radar detected a TB AIS. Danny 132 called KRI RJW-992, requesting assistance in evacuating the victims of the KM Maju Jaya sea accident.
The ship capsized during a storm on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. According to the chronology provided by the victims, the KM Maju Jaya capsized due to strong winds that hit the ship, causing the entire crew to fall overboard. They were adrift at sea for 30 hours, receiving help from TB. Danny 132 until 12:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time on Friday, July 11, 2025.
The evacuation of victims from TB. Danny 132 to the KRI Dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 proceeded safely. Nine victims were rescued: Captain Bejo Slamet (46 years old), Andi (20 years old), Aldo (20 years old), Indra Dirmansyah (37 years old), Nugi (18 years old), M. Faris (20 years old), Riki Saputra (40 years old), M. Kholik (53 years old), and Zaenal Arifin (52 years old). After undergoing medical examinations, all victims underwent recovery in the treatment room and are currently improving.
In the treatment room, the Commander of KRI Dr. Colonel Sadimin of the Indonesian Navy, Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992, stated that "this is one of the Indonesian Navy's responsibilities to provide a sense of security to all maritime users."
Separately, the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali, expressed his appreciation for the swift action of the Indonesian Navy, KRI Dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992, in saving the lives of those involved in the maritime accident.
