Market Challenges Do Not Deter Mercedes-Benz from Dominating the Trust of Indonesian Bus Operators

The national passenger transportation industry is currently facing a dynamic and challenging situation due to economic fluctuations. However, these conditions do not appear to have shaken the position of Mercedes-Benz Bus.

As one of the top choices for bus business players in the country, throughout May 2026, Mercedes-Benz has been flooded with positive sentiment through a series of new fleet deliveries and contract signings from various major operators.

Based on wholesale sales data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), the domestic bus market is still struggling through difficult times amid economic dynamics and conditions in the transportation industry.

Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz Bus has successfully gone against the tide by recording a significant sales growth surge of 36.9% for the period from 2025 to 2026.

This positive trend serves as concrete evidence that factors such as safety, passenger comfort, operational cost efficiency, and reliable after-sales service remain non-negotiable priorities for transportation entrepreneurs.

President Director of PT Daimler Commercial Vehicles Indonesia (DCVI), Naeem Hassim, views the fleet investment phenomenon amid this dynamic situation as a strong signal of high optimism from players in the passenger transportation industry.

According to him, operators are now becoming smarter and more selective in choosing vehicles that not only boost productivity but also ensure the long-term sustainability of their businesses.

“The continued trust given by customers motivates us to keep delivering transportation solutions that are relevant to the industry’s needs,” he said in Jakarta on Friday (22/5/2026).

“Transportation operators need vehicles that can provide operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and are supported by a reliable service network,” he added.

The expansive steps taken by bus operators in Indonesia are clearly visible from their transaction activities. For example, PO MTrans through PT Bagong Dekaka Makmur officially strengthened its fleet by ordering Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 chassis.

Director of PT Bagong Dekaka Makmur, Budi Susilo, emphasized that the rejuvenation and addition of premium fleets such as the OH 1626 model is a strategic move to maintain the company’s competitiveness in the eyes of the public.

Not to be left behind, one of the giants of land transportation, PO Sinar Jaya, also demonstrated its aggressive investment commitment. This major step was taken to maintain excellent service quality across various market segments they serve.

Attended directly by one of its founders, H. Rasidin Karyana, PO Sinar Jaya placed a large order for various flagship chassis types, ranging from the Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 L and OF 1626 to the high-specification premium O500 2445 chassis.

Meanwhile, behind the impressive performance of Mercedes-Benz chassis in Indonesia, there is close synergy with the local bodybuilding industry. Through DCVI’s regular supervision and oversight, domestic bus body manufacturers have successfully produced cutting-edge innovations that meet global standards.

Managing Director of PT Tentrem Sejahtera, Yohan Wahyudi, stated that this collaboration proves the capability of the national manufacturing industry, which is becoming increasingly competitive and able to meet the high expectations of operators.

“The collaboration between DCVI (Mercedes-Benz Bus) and Indonesian bus body manufacturers shows that the national industry is capable of delivering high-quality products with global standards,” explained Yohan.

Charles Hugo Wahyadiyatmika, President Director of PT Mekar Armada Jaya (New Armada), expressed a similar view. For him, Mercedes-Benz’s flexibility in accommodating operators’ specific requests is the key to success in creating safe buses.

“The creations we produce here are special requests tailored to the needs of each operator, and of course, this can be realized thanks to collaboration with the Mercedes-Benz team,” said Charles.

“This demonstrates that the strong collaboration between body manufacturers and Mercedes-Benz Bus further strengthens the national industry’s contribution in delivering safe, comfortable, and highly competitive vehicles,” he added.

On the other hand, Andre Jethrokusumo, Director of PT Adiputro Wirasejati, also affirmed the importance of this long-term partnership. He hopes this cross-sector collaboration will continue to deliver quality fleets ready to serve the community’s mobility needs.

“We see the community’s need for quality transportation services continues to increase,” he said while handing over robust Mercedes-Benz OH 1626 S and OH 1626 L units to PO Bagong Pariwisata at Busworld SEA 2026.

“Therefore, collaboration among all industry players is very important in delivering vehicles that are not only comfortable to use but also meet quality standards capable of competing at the international level,” Jethro added.

Mercedes-Benz’s dominance in the country is now further strengthened by production localization. Through PT Daimler Commercial Vehicles Manufacturing Indonesia (DCVMI), the assembly process for bus and Axor truck chassis is now carried out locally at the Cikarang plant in West Java.

With an annual production capacity of 5,000 units, this global Daimler Truck facility not only focuses on efficiency but also applies environmentally friendly technology and continues to strive to increase the value of Local Component Content (TKDN).

Nevertheless, DCVI’s success in Indonesia coincides with the celebration of 130 years of Mercedes-Benz Truck’s global journey under the Daimler Truck banner.

Drawing on a heritage of innovation spanning more than a century, Mercedes-Benz reaffirms its unwavering commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s safe, comfortable, efficient, and sustainable transportation ecosystem.
