10 Most Favorite Trains During Long Holidays, Tickets Sell Out Fast

JAKARTA, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded a large spike in customer volume during the long holiday and joint leave that took place from May 28 to June 1, 2025. Even as of Friday (5/30/2024) at 10.30 WIB, as many as 684,108 tickets had been sold, or around 81% of the total capacity provided of 841,156 seats.

Of this total, Long-Distance Trains dominated with 572,608 customers (82% of capacity), while Local Trains recorded 111,500 customers (80%).

"The flow of departures has been dense since Wednesday (5/28). Even on the first two days, the average occupancy exceeded 100% thanks to a dynamic system that allows one seat to be used by more than one customer in a day," said KAI VP Public Relations Anne Purba, in her statement, Friday (5/30/2025).

Daily Occupancy of Long Holiday (temporary):

May 28: 169,561 out of 161,791 (105%)

May 29: 176,150 out of 168,864 (104%)

May 30: 114,466 out of 169,230 (68%)

May 31: 104,503 out of 170,533 (61%)

June 1: 119,428 out of 170,738 (70%)

Anne added that KAI also noted that a number of tourist cities such as Yogyakarta, Banyuwangi, Blitar, Surabaya, and Purwokerto are the most popular destinations.

In addition to being rich in tourist attractions, these cities are also supported by trains with affordable fares and comfortable facilities, making them a favorite among travelers.

Seeing the trend of high interest in traveling by train, KAI urges the public to immediately book tickets.

"Immediately book tickets through Access by KAI or the booking.kai.id site so that your vacation trip is more comfortable and safe," said Anne.
