Netherlands Reserve 150 Oshkosh Kaaiman DXPV Vehicles Derived from US JLTV for Marine Corps
A significant procurement contract for 150 Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicles (DXPV), known as "Kaaiman," based on the U.S. Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), has been finalized with the Netherlands Ministry of Defense by Oshkosh Defense Europe B.V. in collaboration with Oshkosh Defense, LLC, according to information released by Oshkosh Defense on June 25, 2025. The signing event, which was held in Doorn, Netherlands, highlighted Oshkosh's leadership in tactical vehicle innovation worldwide and marked a significant turning point in the evolution of Dutch expeditionary ground forces.
The U.S. Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), a multi-mission vehicle created to replace the U.S. Armed Forces' aging Humvee fleet, is the blueprint for the DXPV (Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicle) "Kaaiman." The JLTV is built to withstand contemporary warfare dangers such ambushes, small arms fire, and improvised explosive devices by combining high mobility, ballistic protection, and digital integration. The JLTV offers unparalleled performance in off-road and expeditionary operations because to its TAK-4i intelligent independent suspension system, digitally controlled engine, and modular architecture that can be modified for various mission requirements.
With particular improvements made to meet the operational needs of the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps, the Dutch DXPV expands upon this platform. The Kaaiman combines improved ergonomics for longer mission endurance, specialist fittings for marine and amphibious deployment, and modernized communications suites compatible with Dutch and NATO command networks, all while retaining the JLTV's basic survivability and mobility. The vehicle readily interacts with the Dutch Marine Corps' current combat and logistical systems and is designed for quick deployment from naval platforms.
The Royal Netherlands Marine Corps (Korps Mariniers) is an elite amphibious infantry unit of the Royal Netherlands Navy, renowned for its rapid reaction capability and extensive expeditionary experience. Tasked with operations ranging from national defense to NATO and UN missions, the Marine Corps is structured for high-readiness deployment and specializes in operations across urban, coastal, and littoral environments. With the addition of the Kaaiman DXPV, the Marine Corps gains a new level of tactical mobility, protection, and joint force interoperability essential for modern conflict scenarios.
This acquisition of U.S. JLTVs reinforces the Netherlands’ strategic commitment to strengthen its expeditionary ground forces and deepens its defense-industrial collaboration with the United States. The deployment of the Kaaiman is expected to elevate the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps’ operational readiness across allied missions, setting a new standard in light tactical vehicle performance for NATO-aligned forces.
