First Lieutenant Michelle, the First Female Captain Pilot of the Indonesian Navy's Panther Helicopter
The Indonesian Navy's Aviation Center (Puspenerbal) officially appointed a female captain pilot for the AS565 MBe Panther helicopter, Lieutenant Michelle Anggaraeni, in Juanda, Sidoarjo, on Wednesday (July 30).
Commander of Air Wing 2, Puspenerbal, Colonel Adam Firmansyah, stated that Michelle is the first female Kowal (Volunteer) soldier to serve as captain of a Panther helicopter, after completing the check flight.
"This success proves that female soldiers have the same capacity to carry out operational air duties. This is an inspiration for all Kowal," said Adam, as quoted in a statement from the Puspenerbal Air Force Center on Thursday (July 31).
Meanwhile, Commander of Air Squadron 100, Major Kuswoyo, said the appointment as captain pilot signifies Michelle's readiness and significant responsibility in the various air operations missions she will face.
"The AS565 MBe Panther is the flagship tactical helicopter of the Indonesian Navy's Air Force Center (Puspenerbal). This achievement marks an important milestone for the Kowal (Indonesian Naval Air Force) and paves the way for more female soldiers to make history," she concluded.
The AS565 MBe Panther has a flight capacity of over four hours and a range of up to 827 km. It is powered by two Turboméca Arriel 2C turboshaft engines, producing 635 kW (852 hp), capable of reaching speeds of up to 306 km per hour.
In Air Squadron 100, Air Wing 2, Puspenerbal, the AS565 MBe Panther's primary role is as an anti-submarine helicopter. Therefore, the AS565 MBe Panther is capable of carrying torpedoes and sonar for operational missions.
In addition to its anti-submarine role, the AS565 MBe Panther is also frequently used as a VIP airlift in several missions and operations.
