Using Advanced Technology, IKN Turns Waste into Energy
The Indonesian Capital City Authority (TPST) operates an Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) using waste-to-energy technology to support basic services ahead of the relocation of State Civil Apparatus (ASN). This facility can process up to 74 tons of household waste per day and is part of efforts to realize a sustainable city.
TPST 1, located in the Nusantara Core Government Center (KIPP) Area, is designed as a modern waste processing center, encompassing sorting, water reduction, and thermal processing. This facility is projected to become a national pilot for energy-based waste management.
Harun, the manager of PT Bina Karya, the operational manager of TPST 1, stated that the facility can process up to 2 x 30 tons of waste per day through two main buildings: a physical processing building and a thermal processing building.
"TPST 1 is designed to serve the KIPP area and its surroundings. This system not only reduces waste volume but also generates energy through waste-to-energy technology," Harun said when met at the location on Wednesday (December 31, 2025).
He added that this facility was prepared to offset residential and population growth in the IKN (Civil Capital City), while also serving as a model for environmentally friendly waste management that can be implemented in various regions across Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Alifriyanto, Project Officer for Operation and Maintenance of TPST 1 at the Directorate of Building, Area, and Urban Management (PGKP), emphasized that the TPST's operation also has a social impact on the surrounding community.
"In addition to protecting the environment, this TPST involves the local community as a workforce. We hope that this facility will encourage behavioral changes in the community towards more responsible waste management," he said.
Based on the Decree of the Head of the IKN Authority, the TPST is managed by the PGKP Directorate, while operational implementation is carried out by PT Bina Karya. The presence of this TPST is part of the IKN Authority's commitment to providing reliable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable basic services.
Through the implementation of waste-to-energy technology, the Indonesian Capital City is affirming the direction of future city development that is clean, efficient, and oriented towards environmental sustainability.
