Construction of Phase II of Sekolah Rakyat Accelerated, Targeting Expanded Access to National Education
The government, through the Ministry of Public Works (PU), continues to accelerate the construction of Phase II Sekolah Rakyats in various regions of Indonesia as part of an effort to expand access to education while improving the quality of human resources.
This strategic program is designed to reach 104 locations across 32 provinces and 102 regencies/cities. Overall, the project is targeted to accommodate up to 112,320 students divided into 3,744 study groups.
PU Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasized that the construction of Sekolah Rakyats demonstrates the government's commitment to developing superior human resources. He stated that his ministry is striving to ensure that these educational facilities are constructed expeditiously without compromising on quality.
As implementation accelerates, construction progress has reached 15.54 percent nationally as of March 22, 2026. This achievement is driven by increased construction activity, the completion of land acquisition, and strengthened coordination between the central and regional governments.
Each Phase II Sekolah Rakyat unit will be permanently built on 5 to 10 hectares of land provided by the regional government. The development concept is designed as an integrated educational area with modern facilities, including technology-based classrooms, skills laboratories, libraries, digital learning centers, and dormitories for students and teachers.
During the implementation process, the Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to address various technical challenges in the field, such as access to project sites, material mobilization, and the readiness of supporting infrastructure. These steps are taken to ensure the project continues to meet its stated timeline.
One example of acceleration is seen in Central Java Province, where construction is spread across 11 locations and shows significant progress. Some of these projects even record progress above the national average.
Going forward, the Ministry of Public Works, together with local governments, will continue to strengthen synergies to ensure the timely completion of all Phase II Sekolah Rakyat projects. Thus, it is hoped that these educational facilities will be immediately utilized to promote equitable access to education and improve the quality of the younger generation in various regions.
