Free Bus Tayo and Si Benteng Services in Tangerang for Students
The Tangerang City Government has confirmed that the free public transportation program for students on Bus Tayo and Si Benteng remains in effect. This initiative aims to support student mobility while helping to ease the transportation cost burden for families traveling to school.
“The free Bus Tayo and Si Benteng program for students is still active and will continue to run as one of the main programs of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor,” said Director of PT TNG, Muhamad Rijal, in a statement quoted on Monday (11/5/2026).
According to Rijal, the free transportation service applies to all elementary (SD), junior high (SMP), and senior high school (SMA) students and equivalents in Tangerang City, provided they wear school uniforms when boarding.
“Passengers must use non-cash payment when riding Bus Tayo and Si Benteng. Do not pay cash directly to the drivers. The program operates Monday to Friday, following the city transport operating hours — especially during school arrival and dismissal times,” he explained.
Rijal added that the free service operates in three time slots:
- Morning: 05:00 WIB to 07:30 WIB
- Afternoon: 12:00 WIB to 15:00 WIB
- Evening: 16:30 WIB to 18:00 WIB
“Besides helping reduce transportation costs for families, the presence of Bus Tayo and Si Benteng is also expected to ease traffic congestion and encourage the use of public transportation among students from an early age,” he said.
To take advantage of this program, students must wear their school uniforms when boarding Bus Tayo and Si Benteng. The service is available for all levels — SD, SMP, and SMA — across Tangerang City.
Tangerang City Government Urges Residents to Switch from Private Vehicles to Bus Tayo and Si Benteng
The increase in fuel prices (BBM), which has raised household expenses, has become one of the main reasons the Tangerang City Government is encouraging residents to shift to public transportation.
Through a campaign promoting public transport, the Tangerang City Government is urging citizens to use services such as Bus Tayo and Si Benteng, which are considered more economical, comfortable, and easily accessible.
Head of the Tangerang City Transportation Agency, Achmad Suhaely, stated that using public transportation like Bus Tayo and Si Benteng is an effective way to help residents reduce their daily transportation costs.
“It helps reduce transportation expenses, especially for workers and people with routine activities in Tangerang City. Meanwhile, students are guaranteed to ride Bus Tayo and Si Benteng for free,” Suhaely said in a statement quoted on Friday (8/5/2026).
According to Suhaely, Bus Tayo and Si Benteng currently serve various strategic routes connecting residential areas, economic centers, and public facilities across Tangerang City.
“In addition to the affordable fare of only Rp2,000, these public transport services are also expected to reduce traffic density and vehicle emissions in Tangerang City,” he said.
The Tangerang City Government is also calling on residents to make using public transportation a daily habit as part of a more efficient and environmentally friendly urban lifestyle.
“We hope the public will become more aware that public transportation is not only a cost-saving solution, but also a form of support for a better organized, sustainable, and less congested urban mobility,” he added.
