Enhancing Women's Action Capabilities for a Fair Energy Transition in Palabuhanratu

Strengthening the role of women in promoting a fair energy transition is the goal of the Pro-Women 3 Project in Palabuhanratu. Although policy-level debate is frequently dominated by energy transition talks, it is equally critical to support grassroots initiatives that motivate communities to adopt more sustainable energy habits. Focused emphasis should be paid to a gender-inclusive strategy that acknowledges women as important participants in both domestic and commercial energy-related activities.

For women in Palabuhanratu particularly, the Pro-Women 3 Project conducted a Gender Action Learning for Sustainability program from May 15–16, 2025. In addition to fostering participants' leadership abilities in the workplace, family, and community, this seminar sought to advance gender equity.

The first part of the training included gender-related topics such violence against women, double burdens, stigma, discrimination, and stereotypes. In order to raise their awareness of commonplace events and social norms, participants were urged to consider these facts in their own lives and communities. They are better able to evaluate circumstances critically, spot possible hazards, and create plans to lessen them when they are aware of this. In order to increase awareness and promote broader engagement, participants were also motivated to take on the role of change agents by bringing these topics into candid, secure community conversations. The program placed a strong emphasis on developing self-confidence, realizing one's own potential, and becoming an example to others in their communities.

The second day's discussion turned on leadership, specifically the importance that women play in bringing about change. Participants were asked to name local, national, and international women they find inspirational, including those in their communities. These women are role models for community influence, leadership, and resiliency. Participants in this reflection activity were inspired to acknowledge their leadership potential and to confront the negative stereotypes that are frequently attached to women, particularly when it comes to positions of decision-making.

Women are essential in promoting the switch to renewable energy in the larger framework of a just energy transition. Women are not only well-versed in energy concerns but also possess the ability to lead and invent environmentally aware solutions because energy is closely linked to everyday life and basic necessities. Rumah Energi is dedicated to encouraging women and rural communities to actively participate in this transformative process through the Indonesia Berdaya movement. This project aims to give everyone in society fair access to sustainable agricultural systems and clean energy.
