Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8×6 Truck Can Carry Loads Up to 1,000 Tons
Daimler Truck has announced that it has received an order for a specially designed heavy-duty truck capable of carrying or towing loads of more than 1,000 tons.
The order comes from Viktor Baumann, a German company that provides heavy transport solutions, which entrusted the Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8×6 heavy-duty truck for conversion.
“Today we are handing over a vehicle that sets a new standard in heavy-duty transportation after months of hard work on this special conversion,” said Ronald Ott, Head of Sales for Mercedes-Benz Trucks Germany, in an official statement on Tuesday (19/5/2026).
In extreme heavy-duty applications, Baumann typically deploys 2–3 heavy-duty trucks working together to pull a multi-axle trailer platform carrying heavy cargo such as transformers — with one truck pulling from the front and another pushing from the rear.
With this new setup, the Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8×6, capable of handling up to 1,000 tons on the trailer, will serve as the final pulling vehicle (or the second truck) that pulls the heavy load from the front while acting as the direct connection to the trailer.
To achieve this, the truck features a reinforced frame/chassis, a modified powertrain, and increased axle load on the wheels to improve traction when pulling the multi-axle platform.
The Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8×6 is the only all-wheel-drive (AWD) model in the Arocs series equipped with the BigSpace cab — the larger, more spacious cabin that can accommodate 2–3 people.
Although engine details were not fully disclosed, Daimler Truck revealed that this special-order heavy-duty Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8×6 is the 625 hp (460 kW) variant.
Referring to factory specifications, this output comes from the Mercedes-Benz OM 473 inline-6 engine with a 15,600 cc displacement, producing 625 hp at 1,600 rpm and peak torque of 3,000 Nm at 1,100 rpm.
“That truck (the Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8×6) is very practical. There is no truck that is too big or too heavy for us. The conversion company did an excellent job and delivered exactly what we wanted,” said Matthias Kirschner, Fleet Manager at Viktor Baumann.
