Technology-Driven Drinking Water Transformation and Equitable Access in Kalbar
Pontianak – The transformation of technology-based drinking water services, improving the quality of consumable water, and equitable access extending to border regions have become the main focus pushed by the West Kalimantan Provincial Government in strengthening water sector governance.
This commitment was conveyed by the Deputy Governor of West Kalimantan, Krisantus Kurniawan, while opening the Regional Working Meeting (Rakerda) of PD Perpamsi West Kalimantan 2026 at the Novotel Hotel Pontianak, on Friday (5/6/2026).
In his speech, the Deputy Governor expressed appreciation for the consistency and progress of the Perpamsi West Kalimantan organization, which he assessed as continuing to show positive development. In a relaxed atmosphere, he jokingly praised the choice of venue for the event.
"Last year at the Golden Tulip Hotel, today at Novotel. It seems the hotel is getting better, sir," he said, which was warmly received by the participants.
Krisantus emphasized that the West Kalimantan Provincial Government pays great attention to the clean water and drinking water sector because it is a basic need that determines the quality of life of the community.
According to him, water issues are no longer just about public services, but are directly related to the sustainability of human life.
"Water is no longer just a matter of controlling the livelihood of many people, but it truly controls life itself. Therefore, when we talk about water, it is obligatory for us to manage and support it to the fullest extent possible," he asserted.
He also highlighted the importance of building public awareness regarding the strategic value of water. He noted that public attention is often greater toward power outages than disruptions in clean water services, even though all living creatures depend on the availability of water.
In the forum, the Deputy Governor encouraged academics, practitioners, and Perpamsi members to begin formulating new approaches and innovations so that the community develops stronger awareness of the importance of water management and utilization.
Furthermore, Krisantus invited regional water service companies to continue transforming in line with technological developments. He hopes that service orientation will not stop at providing water for domestic needs, but will evolve into safe, high-quality, and ready-to-drink water services.
He even encouraged Perpamsi to conduct comparative studies to various countries and regions that have successfully developed water treatment technology into drinking water, including areas with limited water sources but capable of delivering quality services to the community.
In addition to innovation, Krisantus also stressed the importance of equitable service distribution, especially in inter-regional border areas that still face distribution challenges.
He cited the need to resolve service issues in the border areas between Kubu Raya Regency and Pontianak City to prevent gaps in clean water access within the community.
Through the implementation of the 2026 PD Perpamsi West Kalimantan Regional Working Meeting, the West Kalimantan Provincial Government hopes that strategic steps will emerge to strengthen drinking water service governance, expand community access, and deliver services that are increasingly high-quality, equitable, and sustainable across all regions of West Kalimantan.
