Google for Education was Launched at the Gunungkidul

Google for Education was launched at the Gunungkidul Regency school on Monday 7 October 2019. Through a touch of technology, teaching and learning activities no longer seemed boring to students.

One teacher from Karangmojo 1 Middle School, Iwan Muharji, said that learning is now utilizing tools from Google.

"Very helpful for learning. Learning that has been boring seems to be more interesting," he said at his school on Monday, October 7, 2019.

The school is one of three schools that started using the Google for Education program. The other two are the Wonosari 1 Elementary School and the Playen 1 High School.

During the last three months using this program, students and teachers are still not used to it. Because, their smartphones are usually only used to communicate, can now be used to attend class learning.

But Iwan said the positive impact was increasingly felt and quite a lot of benefits.

"Students are no longer sleepy in class. It can save money too, because we no longer use paper in class lessons," he said.

In addition, teaching and learning activities are now also not blocked by distance. When there are students who are sick or unable to come to school, they can still take lessons like other students.

"We use teleconferences online, teachers and students interact in class. Students can use smartphones, no need for laptops or computers," he said.

One of the 9B grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Karangmojo, Danika Nur Hayati said that using technology from Google, she found it easier to understand the material provided by the teacher compared to the usual learning methods.

"For me it is very helpful, easy to understand. The previous method of teaching and learning activities teachers must explain at length, and that makes bored, for example told. If we learn anywhere as long as there are media and internet connections," he said.

President Director of PT Duta Digital Informatika who is a partner of Google Indonesia as well as a Google for Education educator, Arya Sanjaya revealed in this program is the result of collaboration between the Department of Youth Education and Sports of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) with Google Indonesia.

Of the four districts and one city, which was chosen to implement Google for Education is Gunungkidul. The plan will be followed in other regions in DIY.

Arya said all students in Gunungkidul and their schools get various facilities for free from this program. Among them are free email accounts that have unlimited file storage capacity, and then use various applications for productivity in learning.

"Students can download software and are free of licenses. So there is no need to look for pirated ones," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Elementary School of Youth and Sports Education (Disdikpora) of Gunungkidul Regency, Sumarto, who was confirmed revealed that the program had only been implemented in three schools.

But after launching on October 7, 2019, there have been 30 pilot schools that will start running it.

He also said, all schools in Gunungkidul in the future used this technology for teaching and learning activities.

"At present there are only ten teachers who have graduated operating this program for use in the learning process. After launching there will be 200 teachers who we assist and teach," he explained.
