How PT PAL’s Autonomous Submarine Works

Jakarta - An autonomous submarine was showcased during the peak celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) at the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta, on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

The autonomous submarine, identified as KSOT-008, featured the logo of PT PAL Indonesia as its manufacturer.

CEO of PT PAL Indonesia, Kaharuddin Djenod, stated that the autonomous submarine represents one of the latest innovations by local engineers.

“We want to prove that Indonesian engineers are capable of meeting future challenges while upholding the nation’s honor in the maritime sector,” said Djenod in his statement, quoted on Sunday (October 12, 2025).

The KSOT operates based on artificial intelligence (AI) and is unmanned.

“KSOT is designed as an alternative underwater defense system — a shield for the archipelago — equipped with surveillance capabilities and the ability to detect both enemy and friendly vessels,” the PT PAL press release stated.

Additionally, the KSOT is operated remotely through an Autonomous Submarine Command Center (ASCC) using direct radio frequency or satellite communication, which can be integrated with the Combat Information Center (CIC) on a command ship, at headquarters, or at naval bases.

PT PAL reaffirmed its commitment to providing maritime defense solutions that deliver real benefits to the people.

“We are not merely a defense equipment manufacturer, but a strategic partner in safeguarding maritime sovereignty and ensuring public safety,” said Djenod.
