Japanese Ministry of Defense and SPF Visit Pindad

Jakarta - General Manager of Special Vehicles at PT Pindad, Hery Mochtady, and his team welcomed a delegation from the Japanese Ministry of Defense and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the PT Pindad Auditorium in Bandung. The delegation was led by Maj. Gen. Ito Yuichiro, Deputy Director General of the Defense Plans and Policy Department, accompanied by representatives from the Directorate General of Defense Strategy, Indonesian Ministry of Defense.

In his welcoming remarks, Hery Mochtady introduced PT Pindad as a strategic defense industry company in Indonesia with substantial production capacity. He also expressed that PT Pindad is open to discussions regarding future defense product collaborations.

“Today marks the first visit and interaction between Japan and PT Pindad. It should be noted that Pindad is an Indonesian defense industry based on research and development, aligned with a five-year product development roadmap. In addition, PT Pindad also produces agricultural machinery (alsintan) and other heavy equipment. Therefore, this meeting with the Japanese delegation is expected to foster discussions to advance the technology of Pindad’s products,” said Hery Mochtady.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Ito Yuichiro, Deputy Director General of the Defense Plans and Policy Department, stated that the purpose of his visit was to discuss and gain a deeper understanding of defense products together with PT Pindad. Through this agenda, he hopes to open opportunities for collaboration between Japan and Indonesia through PT Pindad.

“We know that Pindad is a strong national asset capable of directly producing weaponry for the Indonesian National Armed Forces. There are many areas we can discuss, but we are particularly interested in research and development related to defense products. Hopefully, this meeting can serve as a bridge for future cooperation between both parties,” explained Ito Yuichiro.

The agenda continued with a company profile presentation, a discussion and Q&A session between PT Pindad and the Japanese MOD & SPF delegations, followed by the exchange of souvenirs and a group photo session. Maj. Gen. Ito Yuichiro and his delegation then had the opportunity to take a plant tour of the Weaponry Division and Special Vehicles Division at PT Pindad’s production facilities.
