KAI Daop 8 Surabaya Transports More Than 2 Million Tons of Goods in Quarter III 2025
Surabaya - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 8 Surabaya recorded positive results in its freight transportation services from January to September 2025. The total volume of freight transport reached 2,083,929 tons, exceeding the program target of 2,060,529 tons, representing a growth of 1.13 percent.
Luqman Arif, Public Relations Manager of KAI Operational Area 8 Surabaya, stated that this achievement demonstrates KAI's consistency in strengthening the role of rail-based transportation as the backbone of national logistics.
"This positive performance demonstrates KAI's commitment to providing reliable, efficient, and timely freight transportation services. We continue to innovate and take strategic steps to meet the growing needs of industrial customers for sustainable logistics solutions," said Luqman.
The growth in freight transportation performance in the Surabaya Operational Area 8 area was supported by increased trip frequency and service routes, optimization of the number of cars in a train, and timely delivery of goods.
"Increasing customer demand for rail-based transportation services is the main driver of this achievement," he added.
Rail transportation is known for its excellence in punctuality and efficiency. This mode is unaffected by traffic congestion, has a reliable delivery schedule, and is capable of transporting large quantities of goods simultaneously. Furthermore, KAI implements high safety standards through escorts, inspections at stops, and strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safety and reliability of customer delivery.
Currently, KAI's freight transportation service, Daop 8 Surabaya, reaches dozens of cities and regencies across Java, connecting industrial areas with ports, economic centers, and national distribution centers. This rail-based logistics ecosystem plays a crucial role in connecting producers with consumers, driving regional economic growth, and strengthening the national supply chain.
In addition to its efficiency, rail transportation is also an environmentally friendly solution. The use of rail helps reduce carbon emissions lower than road transportation, supporting the government's efforts to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060 and develop a green economy in the transportation sector.
"Trains are now not only a means of passenger transportation, but also a crucial link in the national logistics distribution chain. This achievement in freight transportation, which exceeded the target, proves that railways are increasingly relevant and strategic in supporting logistics efficiency and green economic development in Indonesia," concluded Luqman Arif.
