DAF Electric Trucks Now Available in 6×2 to 8×4 Configurations
Leading Dutch truck manufacturer DAF Trucks has officially expanded its electric vehicle lineup by introducing multi-axle chassis variants for the XD, XF, XG, and XG+ Electric models.
This move marks a new era in which zero-emission trucks are no longer limited to light urban distribution but are now entering heavy-duty sectors such as construction and large-scale material transport with 6×2, 6×4, and 8×4 configurations.
With modular technology and the efficiency of Paccar drive motors, DAF offers not only environmentally friendly vehicles but also performance capable of matching conventional diesel engines even in tough terrain.
In this expansion, DAF introduces the FTG and FTN Electric series in 6×2 tractor head configurations. The FTG model comes with a steerable pusher axle, making it ideal for heavy distribution by achieving optimal axle load ratios.
Meanwhile, the FTN model features a steerable trailing axle, delivering an exceptionally small turning radius for navigation in urban areas and tight spaces.
For rigid chassis trucks, the FAS Electric 6×2 model is equipped with a dual rear axle rated at 10 tons. This design is specifically intended for tipper trucks, where weight distribution is often concentrated at the rear during loading.
The construction sector receives special attention through the FAT (6×4) and FAW (8×4) models. The 6×4 FAT is engineered for maximum traction on dirt or muddy terrain thanks to its dual tandem drive.
For more extreme needs, the 8×4 FAW configuration offers a GVW of up to 37 tons. Its standout feature is the rear axle that can steer behind the tandem drive unit, providing surprisingly agile maneuverability for a truck of this size.
For the XDC and XFC Construction variants, DAF provides a ground clearance of up to 40 cm and an approach angle of 25 degrees, along with steel radiator protection plates for maximum protection in project site conditions.
Behind their modern cabins, these trucks are powered by Paccar EX-D1 or EX-D2 electric motors. These motors deliver power outputs ranging from 230 hp to 480 hp, with peak torque reaching 2,400 Nm.
Power is delivered through the latest 3-speed automatic transmission using a planetary gear mechanism. The system is designed for extremely fast and smooth gear shifts while keeping the vehicle weight low.
DAF has chosen Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology for its entire electric lineup. Unlike conventional batteries, LFP contains no cobalt or nickel, making it thermally more stable and environmentally friendlier.
Available in modular systems from 2 to 5 battery packs (capacities from 210 kWh to 525 kWh), these trucks can travel more than 500 kilometers on a single charge.
The DAF Electric chassis is highly bodybuilder-friendly. The modular battery packs can be repositioned to create space for additional equipment such as crane outriggers or side-loading waste systems.
Additionally, there is an e-PTO 650 Volt option with power outputs of 25 kW, 60 kW, or 100 kW to fully electrically drive auxiliary systems such as refrigeration units, cranes, or hydraulic installations.
With the introduction of these new electric trucks and their comprehensive supporting ecosystem, DAF Trucks is no longer just selling vehicles — it is providing a mature energy transition solution for the global transportation industry.
